The Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies has published the Belarusian Yearbook-2009. The Belarusian Yearbook, a tradition since 2003, is a joint action by the community of experts and analysts of Belarus to compose, conceptualize and present the chronicle of the newest country's history. It is a unique publication to suggest a complex and analytical review of events and trends in different spheres of public life.
In 2009, the impact of the global financial crisis, government's interaction with the IMF for the sake of minimization of this impact, expansion of the dialogue with Europe, and engagement of Belarus with the EU Eastern Partnership program were defining the situation in the political and public life of Belarus. These processes made an impact on all the segments of public life. Grasping the specific features of these processes in a relevant and, when possible, politically neutral way was a central task for the Yearbook authors. However, the criterion of political impartiality was secondary compared to those of analytical thoroughness and comprehension of research.
The work on the Yearbook was assisted by independent analysts and experts, as well as professionals of numerous think tanks, e.g. the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies; the Institute of political studies Political Sphere; the IPM Research Center; the Humanitarian Technology Agency – the Center for Social Innovation; axiometrical research laboratory NOVAK; Independent Institute of Social, Economic and Political Research; Centre for Eastern Studies (Warsaw); analytical center Polissia Foundation for International and Regional Research (Chernihiv, Ukraine); and the eBelarus research center.
As a joint action, the Yearbook is aiming at, on one hand, stimulating public discussion regarding transformations and national development scenarios, on the other hand, providing information to the state officials, business managers, diplomats, journalists, and other political/public actors.
