Relations between independent Belarus and the Arab nations of the Middle East have been contradictory yet positive on the whole. Although by far not all declared initiatives were implemented, the Belarusian government pragmatically recognized this region as a new market, investments source and political partner and made its best to establish some links to these countries. Belarusian policies were flexible and emphasis shifted from cooperation with Iraq and Syria toward wealthy conservative monarchies of the Persian Gulf. A new BISS research paper presents quantitative and qualitative analysis of major aspects of this interaction.
